I was having a discussion about this the other day with (I won't say heated discussion but... both of us are people that gets rather passionately carried away bahaha

I'm someone who likes more literal translations rather than something thats a "Localisation of the Script" It distracts me when I hear something in Japanese and then the sub doesn't fit to what I hear. ~nya-nya on the other hand supports the localisations of the script, and if it makes it easier to understand, then its all good. One of the reasons why I dont really like the official subs on the real DVDs is that they normally do this localisation.

Of course I'm not referring to, or including, the extreme sides of both where there is "baka onna! have you made my gohan?!" "I'm a KYOUSHI!" and my riceballs are jelly donuts, my yurilicious couples are "close cousins" and my anime songs are anisons. I'm referring to the smaller, fuzzier, greyer parts like the honorifics, onee/onii-san, etc.

I know these are personal preferences and though it makes me wince to see a child calling another child "Mr.", "Ms.", etc. when I hear "-san" I know if I saw, say, a Russian movie and I had to read whatever nuance they had in their language on the subtitles, I would be rather irked, so I'm pretty objective to anyones preference on the matter.
